Abstract
The sample survey on the college students¢¥ filial responsibility for their own parents and the students¢¥s attitude toward the contacts of the parenthod as parametric variables was conducted covering 511 college students (Male 293 & Female 218) in Seoul, Korea and 567 college students (Male 270 & Female 297) in Tokyo, Japan.
The period of the survey was May, 20-June, 30, 1986, and thirty items were included in this suvey. The major contents of the survey were such as (1). young students¢¥ own viewpoint of the aged, (2). the students¢¥ images of the older persons, (3). the students¢¥ knowledge of the aged, (4). the students¢¥ sense of contacts with their own parents, and (5). the consciousness of filial responsibility for their parents¢¥ older life, but only the last two contents were related to this research paper. The processing and analysis of these statistical research data were implemented according to the SPSS by the Computer Center of Tokyo University.
The survey results are in the following:
1. The consciousness of filial responsibility and the attitude toward the contacts of the parenthood for the elderly in Korean students are positively stronger than those of Japanese students, especially in the aspects of "sense of living together with their parents" and "sense of taking care of their parents".
2. The independent variables in relation with the consciousness of filial responsibility for the elderly of Korean students are found out as "sex" and "parity at birth". In other words, the consciousness of male and eldest son were presented much more stronger than that of female and the others.
3. The parametric variables related to the consciousness of filial responsibility which are common in Korea and Japan are derived as "satisfaction with family relations" and "perception of filial piety".
In case of Korea, the more satisfactory both sexes of students were with the family relations, the more stronger the sense of living together with their own parents were, while the more affirmative the perception of filial duty was, the more stronger the male students¢¥ sense of living together with their own parents was.
But in case of Japan, the sense of living together with and taking care of the their own parents were different among the male students according to the degee of satisfaction of family relations.
